Australia’s leading fashion brand, Cylk, collaborated with such luxury retailers as Henri Bendel and Fred Segal to prove to the world that high-end fashion can be eco-friendly. Started in 2006, Cylk initially made clothes composed of 100% silk. Now, they have an entire ready-to-wear collection made of luxury blends that include super fine bamboo, silk and modal. While bamboo is a more well-known fabric, modal is made from the cellulose of beech trees.

The most unusual aspect of Cylk’s designs is their brilliant take on the current cut-out trend and fabric removal. This unique dress draws attention to the shoulders by removing fabric from the sleeves. Cylk has the perfect combination of eco-friendly and unique, designer fashion.

Cylk is the leader in seamless eco-chic bamboo fashion, and “combines high-end fashion with environmental awareness. With an aim to promote fair trade practices and discussion of sustainability issues, the Cylk philosophy is about caring for others, respecting nature, and working together to make the world a better place.” For more information regarding their environmental awareness philosophy and to view the whole collection, check out the Cylk Web site.

In that every day hustle and bustle, we’ve all seen those boring, reusable shopping bags and bland, carry-all totes. Don’t get us wrong—they’re eco-friendly so they’re totally great—but we’ve got something to show you that’s more, well… hip. New to Verde Lifestyles is a line of Organic Cotton Tote Bags that can please everyone from the most traditional likes to the bold and trendy needs.

These vibrant, earth-inspired totes are for you daring, environmentally-friendly folk. Adorable nature prints adorn the entirety of the bag and are sure to catch the eye of those passer-bys. Measuring approximately 12.5″ wide, 14.5″ tall and 17″ deep, the bags function perfectly as reusable shoppers or daily tote bags. They only cost $17.95, so don’t be afraid to make a green [or blue!] statement!

This subtle striped tote is for our less intrepid crowd. Clean, green stripes against an ivory background add just enough oomph to this reusable tote bag. Priced at $34.00, this tote is a bit larger than the bags described above. It’s great for toting your daily essentials and can easily carry an abundance of groceries. Be careful, though—once everyone sees you keeping the world green with this classic tote, you’ll be fighting them off with a stick!

Making a statement in the green movement, Suzy Amis [James Cameron's wife] showed up to the Oscars in an eco-friendly gown. Made of Ahimsa silk, the eco-dress is completely sustainable. This type of silk is derived from cocoons without any harm to the creatures living inside. The  “Avatar blue”, zero waste silk gown was designed by Michigan State University student Jillian Granz. It was won in part of the “Red Carpet Green Dress” contest which aimed to raise money for an elementary school. Of the environmentally-friendly dress Amis said, “Jillian’s design was stunning and had that something special. It’s a beautiful combination of sustainability and style.” There you go folks, Hollywood’s wife-in-the-spotlight wearing a high-fashion, green dress. Eco-fashion has made a comeback!

High-end fashion will no longer be associated with slave labor and animal furs. The Green Movement has swept the fashion industry, proving eco-friendly fashion does not necessarily mean dreadlocks and hemp frocks. Exhibit B: Linda Loudermilk’s groundbreaking line of clothing and accessories for the green male or female. [Continued from Part I]

Named one of the top 20 innovators to watch by W Magazine, Linda Loudermilk is continuing to change the way we think about environmentally-friendly fashion. Her personal goal is to “ignite expressiveness, encourage clarity in the choices of daily life, and through awareness bring about gratitude of this planet, our home, within which we reside and from which we are fed.”

She trademarked the term “luxury eco™” and was the first designer to create a luxury+eco lifestyle brand. All products are made from the sustainable fabrics “that she researched and developed, targeted towards the most demanding luxury consumer. She began using organic textiles that are woven from natural sources like bamboo, SeaCell® (seaweed) and Ingeo™ (corn).”

Ok, so let’s be honest, our site design kicks ass and so do our products, but not everyone judges a book by its cover. This is especially the case when you’re selling eco-friendly, hand-crafted, designer products that are valued a little higher than average. Information is key and based off of our continuous research on what you, our customers, are looking for when you see our stuff, we decided it was time to bring on some new personnel to pick up the slack.

Ally Varady is our new product information and site content writer. She is a junior at Michigan State, majoring in communications, specializing in PR, and minoring in Spanish. Her experience to date includes a recent job at a publicist’s office in NYC working on press-kits, client wardrobes and movie premieres. She’s got a popular blog focused on high-end fashion and occasionally throws in some opinion pieces, usually regarding celebrities or current events.

Some random facts about Ally: She loves puzzles, gives blood every 8 weeks like clockwork and believes strongly in humane animal treatment. She especially loves kittens. LOLZ

Keep an eye out for a ton of new content on our products, blog, and guide to green living section in the coming weeks. Welcome Ally!

One look at a pair of Olsen Haus shoes, and the word that comes to mind is “fabulous.” However, more meaningful frases to describe these pure vegan shoes are “universal truth, respect for all beings, and social responsibility.”

Elizabeth Haus created this high style line to offer an escape from the environmentally unfriendly repercussions that result from the making of traditional shoes. For more than 20 years, she has been an advocate against “the use of animals for food, clothing, experimentation, and entertainment, as well as for the environment and social justice.” For nearly 20 years, she has maintained a vegetarian diet, with the last 2 years being vegan. Her shoe concepts stem from a “passionate pursuit of consciousness, purpose, function, color, art, design, and ethics.” Olsen Haus has redefined the world of high fashion shoes, and this cruelty-free woman is definitely here to stay.

High-end fashion will no longer be associated with slave labor and animal furs. The Green Movement has swept the fashion industry, proving eco-friendly fashion does not necessarily mean dreadlocks and hemp frocks. Exhibit A: Anne Salvatore Epstein and her environmentally-friendly collection, Beau Soleil.

After replacing her “overly excessive” lifestyle with one that was “simple, modern and organic,” former Marc Jacobs worker Anne Salvatore Epstein decided to launch an eco-friendly fashion collection. She concentrates on the use of organic raw materials with the goal of offering consumers environmentally healthy clothing choices without sacrificing fashion.

Some standout products:

Blanket Dress; 70% bamboo 30% organic cotton
