So you know when you’re online and then you see a another cool website, and then another and all of a sudden you forget what you were doing in the first place? Totally happened this Wednesday, but the search actually started offline.  I was at Avalon International Breads in Detroit and saw the back of an employee’s shirt had the website RecycleHere.net.  I also work with a recycling company, RecycleMax, so I thought I would check it out.  RecycleHere.net is a community based recycling center.  (Detroit does not have city wide recycling).  But I also came across AShirtBag.org, another Michigan based company…

AShirtBag is a non-profit that offers educational programs to low-income children throughout Metro Detroit.  The main program, 7 Things You Can Do in 7 Days to Save Our Environment, is in partnership with school science departments and teaches conservation.  Their mission is to create awareness about the “devastating effects of plastic and paper shopping bags and the energy that is lost in their production”.

Facts: ”The US disposes of 100 billion plastic bags annually.  Paper bags generate 70% more air pollution than plastic and 50% more water pollution.  It takes 91% more energy to recycle a pound of paper than a pound of plastic.”
